Poorly Drawn Things was born July 2010 out of a small black moleskine labeled The Small Book of Poorly Drawn Things. Detailing the tumultuous inner life of Penny, Poorly Drawn Things has grown from tiny bic and sharpie pen sketches to large watercolors and beyond. Penny’s obsessions and paranoias include death, fear, religion, childhood, panic, and mental illness.

The 1970 debut from Detroit's nastiest, most shredding progenitors of funk-rock. Funkadelic formed in the late '60s and, in addition to Clinton, included the blazing guitar of Eddie Hazel, organist Mickey Atkins, rhythm guitarist Tawl Ross, and drummer Tiki Fulwood.  Though firmly rooted in funk and soul, Funkadelic incorporates a dark psychedelic element, influenced by Hendrix and Sly Stone, to create a sound that was unparalleled at the time. Nine Inch Nails – Pretty Hate Machine
(Original Version) [LP]  $17

 Although Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor became the poster boy for industrial rock in the early 1990s, his '89 debut, PRETTY HATE MACHINE, actually has a stronger foothold in '80s synth-pop.  The guitar-heavy opener, ''Head Like a Hole,'' is the most aggressive track on the album and proved to be the signature song for Reznor's initial breakthrough, but much of the disc sounds like Depeche Mode in a particularly bad mood.  All of the tracks on PRETTY HATE MACHINE are based on synthesizer lines and programmed beats, with other elements – such as the distinctive bass on ''Sanctified'' and sampled explosions on ''That's What I Get'' – filling out the sound.  Despite Reznor's morose lyrics, a number of HATE MACHINE's finest moments are energetic dance tunes, particularly ''Down in It'' and the surging ''Sin.''  Oddly enough, Reznor's fiercer, and seemingly less accessible, subsequent work (the BROKEN EP and THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL) led directly to his mainstream success, but PRETTY HATE MACHINE reveals where the Nine Inch Nails aesthetic started out.

Another alternative classic originally released in 1991, available on vinyl for the first time since its initial release.  The third album from Les Claypool & Co. and first for a major label, is a twisted mix of prog rock, funk and punk, with a taste for Frank Zappa's humor and Captain Beefheart's guttural growl.  One of the few bands to have the bass as the prominent instrument, Claypool alternates from funky slaps to throbbing power chords to heavy, heavy solos while the guitar provides almost dissonant texturing beneath the bass' shredding.  Features the MTV hit Jerry Was A Race Car Driver.  Available on 180g Vinyl!

Upon the dissolution of the criminally overlooked Kyuss, guitarist Josh Homme pulled up stakes from the California Desert for the Pacific Northwest to work on a new project concurrent with spending time on the road as second guitarist in Screaming Trees. Seeking a new sound, Homme discarded the sludgy low-end expanses of his former band for much tighter song structure (for the most part) and honest-togoodness capital 'H' hooks and what was originally christened Gamma Ray was quickly changed to Queens Of The Stone Age shortly after birth.

Homme returned to his old stomping grounds and re-united with latter day Kyuss drummer Alfredo Hernandez to record as a fake trio (bass player ''Carlo Von Sexron'' is a nom-deboom for Homme) and QOTSA came into full bloom. If this re-issue doesn't document ''hour zero,'' it's only a few minutes past. ''Regular John'' introduces Homme as a smooth and assured vocalist with great melodic instinct. Tracks like ''Avon'' and ''Walkin' On Sidewalks'' lock into heavy riffs that are in entrancing in their repetition and subtle shifts. And it's hard to believe that insistently catchy ''How To Handle A Rope'' didn't make a greater impact on mainstream radio upon its initial release. Amidst the mid-fi riffage and willful experimentalism of an artist forging a new sound for himself are some killer guitar melodies that could have easily come from 1971, 1991 or 2011. And that's part of the timelessness of this unassuming debut album. QOTSA can only truly be classified as a ''rock band;'' Any attempt to narrow that down further would be to neglect the scope of Homme's broad body of work and the band's wide-reaching appeal.

This re-issue has been fully remastered from the original tapes and has been expanded by three tracks on double vinyl. ''The Bronze'' & ''These Aren't the Droids You're Looking For'' (from the a split EP from '98) and ''Spiders and Vinegaroons'' which was part of the posthumous Kyuss/QOTSA split EP. The vinyl is a double LP deluxe gatefold package that will also include a free digital download card.

One of the U.K.’s most legendary reggae bands, Steel Pulse was formed in the tough Handsworth neighborhood of Birmingham in1975 by a group of friends from struggling West Indian immigrant families.  Chief among them was David Hinds, Steel Pulse’s lead singer, guitarist, and principal songwriter.  Building on a base of roots reggae, they mixed latin, jazz, and R&B influences in with the Rasta beats – as well as impassioned messages of social justice and political protest.  Steel Pulse’s stellar musicianship and ideological courage shine on the 1984 album EARTH CRISIS, now available at FeeLit.

J Dilla – Ruff Draft Instrumentals [LP]  $18

These self-produced tracks make up one of the late J Dilla's least known works during his lifetime.  Released on vinyl only in February 2003 this sought-after release was elusive and virtually unknown to the casual Dilla fan until Stones Throw's reissue in 2007.  Recorded in the wake of a failed deal with major label MCA, Dilla returned to solo recordings as a fiercely independent artist with Ruff Draft.

Sun Ra's The Soul Vibrations Of Man is an amazing album.  This mid 70s LP is supposedly one of the rarest Sun Ra albums – so, the reissue version seems long overdue.  The LP opens with some laid back free jazz reed work and moves into a super cool call and response number.  The flip-side is a set of harder free jazz tunes with some brass solos and crazy synth work.

'Broken Boy Soldiers'' is the debut album from the Raconteurs.  By pairing pop songsmith Brendan Benson with hard-rocking Jack White (the White Stripes) and backing them with the crack rhythm section of Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler (both of the Greenhornes) what resulted is a completely kick-ass album.  From the anthemic volley of ''Steady, As She Goes'' to the sing-songy crunch of ''Hands'' and the downright sinister slow creep of ''Blue Veins'' this album covers the complete range of human emotion.

''Broken Boy Soldiers'' is the first proper vinyl reissue from Third Man (both the V2 and XL versions of this LP are out-of-print) with plans to tackle the rest of the White Stripes and Jack White back catalog already in the works. We’re proud to announce the long-overdue reissues of the first three LP’s by The White Stripes.

Out-of-print in North America since 2005, the utmost care was taken in presenting these records in the best way possible.
We started by mastering each LP from the original analog master tapes, the first time this process had been used for any of these titles.  While extremely labor-intensive, this method ensured that the material was never converted into a digital signal.  The result is an audio quality that stiffens the hairs on the back of your neck.
We pressed each record on 180-gram vinyl, again, the first time any of these three albums have been afforded this superior vinyl weight.
For artwork, we started from scratch and went back and tracked down all the source material, working from the original photographic prints to provide the crispest versions possible of these album covers.
From there, we printed the artwork on the deluxe old-style, tip-on sleeves from the wonderful folks at Stoughton Printing in California.  This process involves printing the artwork on on sheet of paper (a slick) which is then folded over and hand-glued to a heavy board blank jacket.  The difference in the final product of a tip-on sleeve as opposed to a regular, direct-to-board sleeve is akin to the difference between hardcover and paperback books.

Also, for the first time ever, each record comes with a coupon for MP3 downloads of the entire album.

All these factors together makes these versions of The White Stripes, De Stijl and White Blood Cells the DEFINITIVE editions of these albums.  These are the versions The White Stripes want people to have for posterity.

The band's commercial break through, this 2001 album went gold, spinning off the Top 20 Modern Rock hits ''Fell In Love With A Girl'' and ''Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground.''

The White Stripes, songwriter Jack White (vocals, guitar, piano, and once bass) and Meg White (drums and occasional vocals) formed in 1997 in Detroit, Michigan. After releasing several singles and three albums within the Detroit independent music underground, The White Stripes rose to prominence in 2002, as part of the garage rock revival scene.

Their use of analog and low-fidelity equipment in the recording process partnered with a do-it-yourself approach created a raw simplicity of composition, arrangement, and performance that sets them apart from their contemporaries.

The exhibition Viva la Revolución: A Dialogue with the Urban Landscape represents the pinnacle of this progression through an epic convergence of 20 artists from around the world.

The urban landscape serves as the inspiration and canvas in an exhibition comprised of four parts: work inside the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD), Public Commissions and Interventions, Bombing, and a Collaborative Site. Barry McGee, Moris, Banksy, Ryan McGinness, Mark Bradford, Dr. Lakra, Swoon, Os Gemoes and others contribute paintings, prints, sculpture, murals, and installations, while Invader and Shepard Fairey create large outdoor murals and Dzine embellishes the city with tricked out pedicabs.

Buff Monster "Happy Creamy"

About the Artist: Buff Monster lives in Hollywood and cites heavy metal music, ice cream and Japanese culture as major influences. The color pink, as a symbol of confidence, individuality and happiness, is present in everything he creates. Buff is known for putting up thousands of silkscreened posters across Los Angeles and also in faraway places. When his original and one-and-only wheat paste brush was no longer usable, seven years of frequent poster missions came to an end. Having given up a very productive street art career, he now works exclusively on fine art paintings, collectible toys and select design projects. His works have been exhibited in numerous galleries, usually accompanied by large installations to enhance the paintings. Aside from his "Happy Creamy" Vannen watch, he has many other projects in the works.

Chris Ryniak "The Order of Things"

About the Artist: Chris Ryniak was born in 1976 in a safely distanced suburb of Detroit. He spent his childhood basking in the warm glow of Saturday morning cartoons, monster movies and flipping over rocks in search of insects and reptiles. In his teenage years, Chris' attention would shift to the world of skateboarding and the artists associated with the skate community, which later led to interests in commercial illustration. A graduate and former instructor at the Ringling School of Art and Design, Chris is now a painter and sculptor of all manner of critters that grace canvases as well as toy and print platforms. Chris' work has been exhibited in galleries throughout the world and his paintings have also been published in numerous books and periodicals. Chris currently resides in a coastal Ohio Dutch Colonial town with his wife, two children, cat and frog.
 

Damon Soule "Square Takes the Circle"

About the Artist: As a child Damon Soule became so engrossed with drawing that it became a distraction; at age 16 he dropped out of school opting for the immediacy of a GED. At 19 he moved to San Francisco and enrolled in the Interdisciplinary Program at the San Francisco Art Institute. In 1996 Soule became the Art Director and Co-founder of FIT Skateboards and Civilian Clothing. After art directing the brands for a number of years, he sold his portion of the business to pursue art full-time. Soule's art has been featured in group exhibitions in San Francisco at 111 Minna Gallery, Punch Gallery, Southern Exposure Gallery, Culture Cache, New Langton Arts and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Recent shows also include "New Works by Oliver Vernon and Damon Soule" at BLVD Gallery and "Green Art Exhibition" at Robert Berman Gallery.

Introducing ‘Light Lining’ to the US. A technique of projection mapping 3D content. Working in collaboration with Vimeo to conclude the Vimeo Festival and Awards, the Frank Gehry IAC HQ provided the perfect canvas for our transformation of sight and sound.

Xbox Kinect Launch – Interactive Art Installation

For the launch of Xbox Kinect in Germany, seeper created an interactive projection mapping. Set at the highly visible Stachus in central Munich, this project attracted hoards of participants. Immersed in the experience, users took part in epic particle ball games, sending fluids shooting three stories high. For the closing party of the inaugural Creators Project world tour, seeper were commission by Intel and Vice to create a music reactive architectural projection mapping.
Taking over an entire wall in the cavernous 798 space, downtown Beijing, we created a real time, generative audio reactive experience.

AC/DC Vs Iron Man 2 – Architectural Projection Mapping on Rochester Castle

On the site of a thousand years of violent history, AC/DC were pitted against Iron Man in a ground breaking architectural projection mapping project. The front facade of the Great Keep at Rochester Castle, was brought to life using the latest in 3D animation techniques. This onslaught of the senses, saw the castle confront it’s ultimate challenge. Warping, morphing, spewing and collapsing before the audiences eyes. Let there be rock!
