‘Night & Day Street Fest’ Celebrates San Diego’s Local Music, Art, Food, and Craft Beer

‘NIGHT & DAY STREET FEST’ Saturday, October 13, 2012

San Diegans and surrounding cities are invited to the inaugural ‘Night & Day Street Fest’ on Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 4:00pm – midnight on 14th Street between K Street & Imperial Avenue in the East Village, San Diego. Named after U-T San Diego’s premier entertainment platform, Night&Day, ‘Night & Day Street Fest’ is a full-service lifestyle event highlighting music, art, food, and craft beer. This is a 21+ event.

Spanning several blocks, ‘Night & Day Street Fest’ will host G-Love, Donovan Frankenreiter, Pato Banton and Everest on the main stage at 14th + K st. and local artists The Nervous Wreckords, The Styletones, Low Volts and Mattson 2 on a second stage at 14th Street+ Imperial.

Observing Oktoberfest with an official “craft beer alley” (14th + L Street), Night&Day has recruited San Diego’s Stone Brewing Co. to curate a line-up of top craft beer with a select group of local breweries including:
Mission Brewery — Located on-site in the historic Wonderbread building
Julian Hard Cider — Chery Bomb
Coronado Brewing Company — Orange Avenue Wit
Avery Brewing Company — White Rascal and India Pale Ale
Brewery Ommegang — Hennepin
Duvel Moortgat Brewery — Duvel Single

“We want to super-serve the community with an incredible experience,” says U-T Director of Lifestyle and Entertainment Chris Cantore. “Our plan is to start small and grow the event, organically, over time. Rather than having a $50 to $100 ticket price, we’re making a strategic move to keep the event accessible to more people at $25 a head. Night & Day Street Fest is really all about celebrating San Diego.”

With first-rate music and craft beer locked, the Night&Day Street Fest will also incorporate interactive art provided by FeeLit (www.feelitsandiego.com), local restaurants, and a pop-up surf museum — details at www.NDStreetFest.com

With the recent launch of www.NDStreetFest.com, the site will bring you up-to-date announcements, music downloads, behind-the-scenes artist interviews, social media interaction, photo-albums, and webisodes hosted by the U-T Entertainment staff.

Tickets are only $25 right now at www.tickets.ndstreetfest.com

VIP Packages are available and include the following: VIP Stage Zone (Next to main stage), VIP Indoor Party Lounge with live DJs, VIP Parking Pass, VIP Express Access, 2 Beer Tickets, 2 Well Drink Tickets, 1 Limited Edition Event T Shirt.

14th + K Street Stage

G. Love : The enigmatically smooth Garrett “G. Love” Dutton is one of Philadelphia’s funkiest performers of laid back, alternative hip-‐hop blues (a genre he helped define). ‘Fixin’ To Die’ — his 4th release on Jack Johnson’s Brushfire records — is arguably his most sincere and candid record to date.

Donavon Frankenreiter : Beloved Hawaii-based singer/songwriter/surfer Donavon Frankenreiter returns to San Diego in support of his fifth full-length album, Start Livin’ — a nine-track selection of folk-infused songs showcasing Frankenreiter’s rich, honey-thick vocals and masterful guitar work.

Pato Banton : A Pato Banton concert is an event not to be missed and an experience not to be forgotten. A Pato Banton concert is an event not to be missed and an experience not to be forgotten — Positive Vibrations abound as Pato delivers a message that is food for the mind and soul.

Everest : Comprised of five singer/songwriters, the members of L.A.’s indie alt-country band Everest came together in the late 2000s to form a session players’ supergroup of sorts — catching the attention of Neil Young.

14th Street + Imperial Avenue Stage

The Nervous Wreckords : Fronted by Brian Karcig of LouisXIV, the indie pop outfit throws down catchy guitar riffs, sass fueled lyrics, melodic choruses and beats that dance.

The Styletones : Playing an uncompromising variety of soul music meticulously designed to promote dancing and sweating, The Styletones take you from the ordinary world to the sublime oneness of the groove, where the bass drum is the universal heartbeat.

Low Volts : 2011 San Diego Music Award winner for ‘Best New Artist’ and ‘Best Blues Album’, LOW VOLTS is giving the music world a much needed shock to the heart. With a gritty old slide-guitar, thunderous kick drum laden with tambourines, and dark, howling vocals, the one-man show creates a thick and heavy sound equivalent to a five piece band.

The Mattson 2 : Fashioned in tall mod suits and stylized blond locks, the internationally praised jazz duo, Mattson 2, consists of twin brothers Jared Mattson on Guitar and loops and Jonathan Mattson on the Drums.

8 bands. 2 stages.

Music. Art. Food. Beer.

Over the past decade, he's been behind the bar or turntables in many of San Diego's nightclubs, and venues. He's shared his musical selections with Southern & Baja California, and the Mayan Riviera. During these years, he could be found exchanging his time for vinyl at Groove Records and Siesta Records.

He often worked for trade, to support his vinyl addiction. He currently owns over 8,000 records. "Listening to my father's albums is when it all began. Flipping through the stacks, cleaning off the LP, placing the needle on the record, reading the lyrics, studying the artwork, and enjoying the rich analog sound. Sure, there are occasional pops & you might have to clean the record. You actually have to flip the record at the end of the side. It's not a play list or program on shuffle. You are present, involved, and engaged in the listening process.
Please Keep Vinyl Alive & Support Local Artists!"
